The Planting Seeds Educational Program

Purpose

In Guatemala, since its initiation in 2001 Oneness has provided:

  • teachers training and supervision,

  • teachers’ salaries,

  • age appropriate school furniture and educational supplies for Planting Seeds pre- and primary school programs

  • programs and teachers who now work in other programs independent of the Planting Seeds Program.

Update February 2012

Presently Planting Seeds is beginning and continuing a number of initiatives:

Grade 1 at Camino Seguro

1. At CaminoSeguro, in Guatemala City, 9 classrooms are operating from a 2 year old pre-school to a Grade 3. A new Prepatoria Program (6 year olds) and Grade 3 classroom were opened in January 2012.

Sacala Pre-school

2. In Sacala Las Lomas the one pre-school morning class has expanded due to an increase in enrollment and in January 2012 an afternoon class was begun.

Children in Tioxya

3. In Tioxya 2 pre-school classes are running with the possibility of a new building and expansion next year.

 4. In Paramos and Cuidad Viaje several classes are being supervised.

Professional Development

5. The Teachers in all the Planting Seeds Programs have formed a Teachers Association meeting once a month for Professional Development. Presently they are also seeking Government recognition for their  Planting Seeds Early Childhood Education Association.

Conference Assembly

 6. Planting Seeds is in negotiations with the University of Landivar, Antigua City Campus, to provide workshops for its Teacher Education programs both at the University and High School level.
