Where has the money come from?
Contributions over the years have mostly come from friends and relatives, most recently it has expanded to friends of our friends and relatives as well as the occasional organization.
In the past donors have either responded to the occasional invitation to support the people we are serving in Guatemala, or they were simply inspired by the newsletters that Susan sent out describing the very poor conditions of the Indigenous People.
In 2006 Oneness received some major funding for the daycare from ACCESO and a Dental Charity. A donation was also received from the Morrow Foundation to start up the "Community House of Service" in Guatemala.
Where does the money go?
Because Richard and Susan pay all their own personal expenses administration fees are kept to a minimum.
Current fund raising objectives:
- School/student supplies
- Learning materials
- Teacher salaries in some schools
- Nutritious snacks for the rural schools
- Basic school furniture for preschool rooms
- School fees and supplies for individual families
- Shoes, socks and clothing for young children at the Guatemala City dump
- House construction in Alotenango and Paramos
- Construction of triple bunk beds
- Donation to homeless shelter
On going costs
On-going costs include salaries and supplies for the preschools in Sacala and Tioxya, as well as equipment and learning supplies for the early intervention program at the Guatemala City dump.
Plus:
- Learning materials
- Student daily snack
- Teacher travel and accomodation costs for in-service
Current fundraising objectives
The Schmaltzs are currently raising funds to pay the salaries of the four teachers in Sacala and Tioxya and to upgrade these existing programs in the rural communities.
In addition to teachers salaries they also fundraise to cover the operating costs of the rural schools as well as all the learning materials at the Guatemala City dump daycare
They are also seeking financial support for the long term operation of the Community House of Service.
The Community House provides housing for volunteers going to Guatemala to build houses for the poor in partnership with Joe Collins, executive director of "From Houses to Homes".
Dorothy Collins, Erik Marx, Ted Richardson and John Weir have accepted the mammoth task of providing water for the families in Sacala Los Lomas.

By cheque: made out to Horizons of Friendship and write in the memo line: “donation to Oneness-Guatemala project”.
Mail cheques to:
P. O. Box 402, 50 Covert Street, Cobourg, ON K9A 4L1
Or make a donation by credit card (VISA or M/C) by calling:

The most useful donation is money, as it allows Richard and Susan to purchase the specific material or goods to suit the needs of specific projects.

Other types of donations, such as used/new clothing or school materials are also valuable. The only draw back with such donated items has been the additional luggage cost, or the limited space in suitcases of volunteers when they travel to Guatemala.
Other ways your can help!
Air miles/Aeroplan
If you, your friends, relatives, company, organization, etc are willing and/or able to share Air miles/Aeroplan miles, it would be a wonderful way to offset some of the personal travel costs of volunteers.
Teams of Service
Teams of Service will be organized from time to time depending on the needs of the project(s) Richard and Susan are working with.
